We had a full chart set for Grenada across to Panama and up to Nicaragua. Never unrolled it or even pulled it out of storage. In the San Blas we used Bauhaus's book as a travel guide, but I scanned and made electronic charts from it for navigating. From there on, no paper.
Hardly matters in this area because the paper charts are not accurate. For Belize, cruising guides will serve for sketch charts, so I guess those are paper, except we have them as PDF files also and will probably use those.
Typically, I like to have one large scale paper chart of a broad area. We have one of the Western Caribbean sea. Never use it, but somehow it seems "proper" to have around and doesn't take up much space.
So far we have been out 5 years and have not used a paper chart yet. Until just recently, we have carried full charts of the US, Bahamas and entire Caribbean, but I dumped them all in Panama.
We are livin' life on the edge - integrated electronics, no paper charts, RIB with big engine, etc! Stay away from us - we are out of control and liable to blow up or run into you at any minute! In our defense, we do not have a wind generator or portable gas generator, do not run our engines for charging and have excellent anchoring gear.
