...hits the fan. My fear is what happens when you loose electrical. I have seen well equipped, well maintained boats limp into Bermuda without any electrical capacity for a multitude of reasons including fuel problems, fire, lightning damage and simply failed charging systems. How many hours will you be able to rely on electronics if you can't charge the batteries? Hell, our own boat can not even flush the head without battery power (we do have a bucket though....).

I am not buying new paper charts but I have a feeling of security from the knowledge that my paper charts are aboard. Not much sacrifice to keep them around...
