I want the physically big picture of the cruising area that only a paper chart - or to a lesser degree, a page in a chart kit - will provide. A laptop or tablet screen is not big enough. And I have no desire - much less space - to keep a wide-screen TV on our Pearson 34. Perhaps your big multi-hull or one of Jon's customer's fornicatoriums offers such an amenity; our boat does not.
The electronic stuff works reasonably well when moving about in close quarters. But for planning for a multi-day cruise, it is my preference to pull out a paper chart and look at one big picture that contains enough detail to tell me how I can sail from Point A to Point B to Point C to Point D to Point E.
And again, I do not want to have to power up a device every time I want to look at a chart.(nl)
