Photo Day: Launching Olive-Ridley baby turtles in Guatemala.

This photo goes back about three years to when my daughter was raising baby turtles as a volunteer at El Rosario on the southwestern shore in Guatemala. El Rosario is a tiny fishing village south of Hawaii, Guatemala a few kilometers. Despite the turtles being "protected", locals gather the eggs from the beach and sell them. With donations, she would buy some of the eggs for the going price and 'plant' them in a Tortugario. When they hatched, she took them to the water and released them. Here she has some local help in doing so. The babies are about the size of a silver dollar.

No matter how they are set down, they turn and head for the sea.
