Catalina 36

I have a 27 year old Catalina 36. It currently has the original mainsail with 4 partial battens, so as you can imagine I will be upgrading significantly going with a full batten main. Right now there is a vinyl covered wire that is attached to the top of the mast for the topping lift. This topping lift wire goes down to about 3 feet above the end of the boom where there is a block which has a line through it which travels inside the length of the boom and exists near the mast where there is a cleat to tie it off. Seems like one option would be to attach a block at the top of the mast where the topping lift is currently attached and then have the topping lift double back down to the boom end which would then allow me to lower the Dutchman to detach in the fall when I take the sail off for winter storage and reverse this in the spring when putting on the main sail again.
