First, get batt slides on the mast. We used just the conventional slides on our Sabre 42 to start with. It made a huge difference in lowering the sail to avoid jamming, etc.
Secondly, I don't believe you need the topmost batten to be full length (maybee the top two). On your sized main, I think that you would get better shaping with a partial batten. Talk with your sail maker.
Finally, though I love our Dutchman, I think that the Harken lazy jack system really worked pretty well on our Sabre 42. You can ease it off when you're sailing in wind conditions and have the sail with a "relaxed" outhaul setting. In that system, you don't pull the lines forward, you just ease them slightly.
Since you're going to be at the mast anyway when you drop the sail, I think either the Dutchman or simple Harken lazy jack system would work fine for you.
You can buy the Harken system from Defender (or someone else) and install it yourself -- it's pretty simple and well designed.
