I think he is talking knot to the shackle vice splice

So this would not have to be untied every time.
On the J105 I race on, they use an odd arrangement of line and sleeve and fat knot to make a sort of shackle that gets tighter with load. First time I saw it I was convinced it would not hold well.
Worked all the way out to Hawaii. Seems to be working fine still.
I still prefer a shackle.

- Buntline Hitch is my choice also. Never had a problem
