I have a nice brass Chelsea Barometer ...

... I view it all the time. At least couple times a day I will lightly tap the face and then adjust the indicator needle. In the Bahamas, the Barometer will tell me of approaching weather changes before the wind does, and give me an idea how dramatic the changes will be by the drop or rise between needle settings. I find it is incredibly accurate predicting weather changes. I also have a wireless Barometer > weather station devices they call them, inexpensive little units you can find on Amazon for $30-$40 that give lots of other information like temperature and humidity inside & out, time, date, cloud cover predictions, moon phases and so on ... I installed the remote sensor under my Navpod at the Helm, and the main unit lives down below at the Nav Station. I keep a daily log of this information. These you can set to "alarm" when significant weather changes are in store, and that works pretty well. There have been a couple times when severe squalls were in the immediate future and the alarm went off ... very handy. I learned quickly when that alarm sounds, the storm will be bad. I also use the Trending Bar Graph on this instrument to show me how sudden the changes to be expected will be, and it is accurate, if a Front will be strong or not so strong, and how quickly or slowly fair weather will return.

I can't imagine not having either of these instruments on board for our cruising ...

Are you in Vero yet ?
