Stuck in a boat cabin contemplating barometers sounds pretty good. I like tapping barometers although the VHF or the internet seem to be better predictors of weather these days. Even that clock on the bulkhead is a little archaic since you have more accurate time on your GPS or cell phone. Still, I'm sure they look good, it adds to the experience and that is what cruising in a sailboat is all about.
