Can't do a folding panel version. That was what was originally planned, but the top access to the settees changed, making anything that folds on top of them problematic. Even a cloth panel. And there is very little edge to fasten to, could screw through the back of the thin cherry fiddle that holds the cushion but I wouldn't trust it. Hence the line stretched along the bottom. That will allow removal and storage when they aren't being used (most of the time). I can't clip to the overhead (well I could but the boat has nearly 7' headroom in the cabin, so some wouldn't be able to reach it). I think with 7 mm Dyneema if I get the length right it won't stretch much - might use a little over center tensioner if needed. The cushions have a slight thigh bolster, that alone is almost enough to keep you in under ordinary conditions, so I think something pretty low will work - glad to have the confirmation though!
One of the best schemes I have seen at the boat show was on a Valiant: the settee behind the table had a section that slid out to the table, making a very cozy double or a spacious single. The folded down table leaf made up the lee side. Only works on one side though. Pilot berths are a great thing, but seldom found on hulls with a modern shape. Our aft cabin has effectively a quarter berth, however sailing downwind there can be quite a lot of motion there compared to the saloon.
