Fuel filter question

We want to change from a single diesel filter to a twin, so that a plugged filter can be changed at our leisure.
The Racor twin 75500FGX2, with the single valve to switch between filters looks good.
Does anyone have experience?

Our current filter is a Racor spin-on, which is changed by taking the filter and bowl off the bottom, which is messy.
Am I seeing things correctly in believing the changing from the top in the filter in the photo will be much easier?

Two single filters cost about $400, and the twin with manifold about $700.
Does it make sense to buy the filters and build the piping and valves myself?

As usual, all contributions of expertise will be welcome
