I did, but I only saves $100 or so. The picture shows my 2 Racor 500MA fuel filters there is a maze of hoses on the other side of the bulkhead.

Incidentally your pic shows the 500FP version. The 500MA versions have the heat shield under the filter. In the US the 500MA type is required if the filter is in the engine space. The FP version is OK outside the engine space.
