Wow, Bernard Stamm & crew rescued on approach to the English Channel...
"The boat broke in two..." Yikes!
I guess like sking in deep powder when both of your skis break
"The front fell off?"
Perspective..
These high tech boats ar relatively fragile
We might all cut the vessel a little slack. ;^)))
Oh, while I'm at it, the French May get their share of jokes
I'm no fan of overbuilding, but a hull that breaks in half sounds underbuilt to me.
The only way you know if it is too heavy, is to build one that breaks in half
Yeah, I'm pretty impressed by the record of these Open 60s overall...
Maybe they are tough, but the one that broke in half wasn't.
Perspective in the picture is distorted?
I would think designing bigger ships to endure storms is much more daunting.
Sort of like space frams vs. simple spans
Seems a world of things should break before, "the hull broke into two pieces in the middle"
Yes, but I thought what they sails was the boat broke
Sounded like a catastrophic hull fracture at the daggerboards. That's acceptable to me,
Tom, I think if I read his report correctly, the boat didn't sink right away.
I keep reading those 3 disturbing words in your links, "broke in two".
I share those thoughts on those three little words...but...
Fair enough. Whether you consider them under built or well built, they're fun to watch.
Some other reports - The boat stayed on the surface for a while...It wasn't a one of those 'bottom drops out, boat sinks
Edmund Fitzgerald?
Broke in half on the surface, or filled through hatches, and broke up on the bottom?? Still un-answered.
