ON a delivery from PR to Texas..sailing along on a nice summer day..light winds, light seas..perfect. Myself and two sailors and ONE power boater..yep he's standing on deck fiddling with something the boat bumped by a small swell and over he goes..My back was to him and all I hear is a Fxxx ME!!! I turn and all I see are his feet as he does a back flip over the side right over the lifelines..So of course we all stand on deck and wave good-bye for a minute or two. Warm water, daylight and he was just pissed not hurt..:)!! Took us about 5 minutes to change course and get back around to him.
The other I was on a delivery TT to SW Harbor on a 62' Hinckley going back for some warranty work this was in 2003 or 2004??. We ended up following a Hurricane into Bermuda. Sailing at night in heavy seas in the SW quadrant of the hurricane, I am on the midnight watch..no stars, pitch black, 30-40 knot winds, 20' to 30' swells some breaking waves.. loads of fun. Anyway we get broadsided green water over the house, knocked down..the boat goes over, dips the rail and then some in the water, she pops right back up and there I am still hugging the wheel. So an hour later my watch is over I go below everyone is awake playing cards and snacking. I say, " Hey, no one even looked to see if I was still up there( they all knew I never worn a harness) The captain looks up at me and says.."well, the boat was tracking so we figured you must still be up there..and if you weren't, we weren't going to find you anyway." Gives one pause to say the least. I still don't strap in..not a wise choice.
