I've always told guests that if they fall overboard, we aren't coming back...

just to get them in the right mindset. Of course I would *try* to recover them, but my confidence is low, and lower in unfavorable conditions. I figure if I go over there is no way my wife would recover me (even if she wanted to!).

I have the Raymarine Lifetag system, which should automatically push the MOB button if the wearer goes over. Unfortunately, Raymarine chose to continue the autopilot on its current heading. The NKE system sets the autopilot to "head to wind" when the tag is lost. I'm not sure what Garmin chose to do with their new watch.

I would like to have a combination PLB and AIS beacon. I don't think they exist yet, but it seems too obvious to not appear soon. I am reluctant to carry a PLB, AIS, and VHF for fear I would sink straight to the bottom. In populated near coastal waters a VHF would be most useful (it seems to me). From many anecdotes, it is difficult for the rescuers to see the MOB, but easy for the MOB to see the rescuers, and direct them towards him.
