I bought my last Raymarine in 2006...

Control head failed two weeks after install. Took Raymarine over a month to repair and return. Was stuck in Curacao at the time (not a bad place to be stuck). After a two week haulout we had to wait another two weeks to leave for Panama.

Course computer broke within 24 hours of control head reinstall - on way to Panama. In Panama called Raymarine. Actually talked to a sympathetic service rep. They said send it in and we will turn it around fast. They actually did and I had it back by the time we transited the canal. Had to go to FedEx warehouse and clear it through customs as Yacht in Transit - took half a day and a big taxi bill.

Write a letter to the then CEO and got refunds on my shipping costs to Raymarine from Curacao and Panama.

This new autopilot causes RFI right on 14.300 Mhz - right where the Maritime Mobile Service net and Pacific Seafarers net operate.

I still have that autopilot and also have an ancient Autohelm installed. One high current switch switches the drive servo and the power from one autopilot to the other - I can switch to backup in an instant. I also have a spare drive that can be swapped in about 10 minutes (takes two people - one on the helm and one in the lazaratte) while underway.

Never again Raymarine.
