In Response To: what type of finish for wooden boathook? ()
Votes for each option.
My boat doesn't have a lot of exterior wood to maintain, so I'm leaning toward some type of varnish. If it deteriorates too quickly, I can always paint it later on. More difficult to go the other way!

- Bear in mind that Ash, when exposed to moisture, will turn black
- I do #3. # 2 would be good too, especially for a boat hook.

- I would suggest the you use two coats of clear epoxy then varnish on top
