I always did that procedure. Was told it was not necessary
In Response To: When unplugging.... ()

I didn't care and always turned switches off going from smaller to larger load breakers finally switching off the main double breaker and then the main rotating switch. It gave me a chance to look at the panel, feel for heat and take inventory of what was on at the time. Returning to the boat was the process in reverse. It also seemed the logical thing to do and I liked doing it.

We had an electrolysis problem in Trinidad that ate our heat exchanger tube stack and started the practice of disconnecting shore power when we left powering the frig from a direct 120 shore line cord keeping the boat offline.

Never liked dumping electricity on or off or keeping the boat plugged in when we were gone.
