Dinghy Lashing -- Too Clever By Half!
In Response To: Nesting Dinghy Bow Lashing ()

So... during some cold rainy evenings, it was great learning how to eye splice double braid onto ring nuts for my dinghy lashing system. It looked good even. But as the Brits say, "It was too clever by half!"

When I tried using it. Screwing on the ring nuts was slow. Tightning them crushed the sealing gaskets. The angle of pull on the ring nuts wasn't ideal. The line got kinked as I spun on the ring nuts. Little things add up and make a difference.

So here's my simpler idea. Each line is simply threaded through with a stopper knot on the back. Then it's tensioned with a trucker's hitch. I'm finishing it with a single half hitch followed by a buntline hitch (I'm with you Charlie Jones). I like the security of the buntline hitch but have trouble tensioning one without first doing a half hitch. Someone might have a better idea on that. I may shorten up the tails later but this is tidy enough for now.

Oh yeah... I've got some beautiful eye spliced lines attached to ring nuts for sale (see upper left on second photo! Any takers? Maybe I can use them for cargo lashing purposes when the dinghy is bolted together. Nah, I have two lifting eyes that would double for that. Oh well, there's no looking back.
