the engineering problems are actually pretty similar. The main difference is that the forces are quite a bit easier to calculate for an airplane than a boat, because they are better studied and less chaotic. But we certainly agree that the keel on an ocean going sailboat should not be disposable. If this is the best Farr/Beneteau can do, then perhaps they should stick to shallow, full length keels.
