Aircraft operate in a 3D environment. More options for collision avoidance than a boat.
Also, aircraft don't have to contend with lost cargo. Non-flying stuff doesn't stay airborne long. A sailboat has to contend with other floating stuff, which is occupying the same 2D plane as the sailboat.
I personally feel the bulb keels are a bad idea, and wouldn't own a boat with one. Owners of bulb keels have to be aware of the associated hazard.
I also feel something has to be done about lost containers. Perhaps make the shippers accountable? Perhaps design them so they don't float?
