It doesn't really matter. Any chart is better

then no chart and no chart is going to be exactly perfect. Maybe it's because I started out with old, out of date, paper charts where some of the data was already over 100 years old. Knowing that, you tended to be very conservitive. That conservitism still sticks with me. I clear charted objects with as much room as I can, use my depth sounder against my charted position and every other way I can think of to keep clear. With the chart plotter putting me a quater mile inland on a routine basis in Mexico you just take it for granted that charts are only a guide and coast piloting is still the rule. I hope I can continue to keep my old ways in the face of all of the new tech. items on the msrket.
