I'm beginning to wonder about the future of the AMVER program... At the rate that commercial ships are being enlisted to assist and rescue offshore sailors, and the costs to the industry, I can almost foresee a time a decade or 2 from now, when AMVER almost morphs into a sort of High Seas version of SEA TOW. Sailors would have to pay an annual 'Membership Fee' to be eligible for a 'free' AMVER rescue, otherwise might be liable for a claim by their rescuers for the cost associated with the rescue...

I don't know, might not be all that far-fetched, no?
