It was a cold, wet spring and now is a series of fronts blowing through. It seems like it's either raining or blowing stink with small craft warnings up, just like last summer. Another strange phenomena is the wind direction. The prevailing winds here are from the West. The weather normally comes from the West, waves from the West, we set up our boats/slips for West winds, double up the West dock lines, etc. Last year and again this year the prevailing winds are out of the East most of the time. For those of us that are limited to boating on weekends we are having a tough go of it trying to get away from the dock at all.
We were also comparing notes yesterday and it seems that many of us are experiencing issues with our fresh water systems after the polar vortex winter we had. Leaks around fittings where there were no leaks previously, loose hose clamps, even water lines that backed out of compression fittings. Everyone uses "the pink stuff" at 100% strength to flush and winterize their fresh water systems.
The old timer at the gravel pit down by our cabin in the Allegheny Forest said this summer is shaping up just like last year and that we should lay in a good supply of firewood for the winter.
