For the third time I am aware of this year we are experiencing something the weather guessers are calling "upwelling" in the lake. The water temperature dropped about 14* in the last 48 hours. It went from the high 60's which is still cold for this time of year to 54* yesterday. The old timers call it "turnover" and it usually happens once per summer. The warm water somehow sinks and the cold water is stirred up from the bottom. I will not be swimming for quite a awhile at this rate.
By the way, when I left work last night there was another marine warning in place on the lake, but only from Ashtabula, OH to Ripley, NY. We are dead center of that area. They were saying all small craft should be off the lake waters, expecting winds to 60mph.
