His idea of double ending the mainsheet got me thinking. Here's a typical older boat with the mainsheet aft(lower photo). As I'm planning on building a new cockpit, I'm looking for ideas. And I also am thinking about a better mainsheet location than my cabin top.
This one lower photo;typical 4 part tackle. Added is a turning block just aft of the traveler that leads it to an ST in the port corner. I could do this. The only thing I don't like is, I'm as often forward of the wheel which gives me easy access to the genoa sheet winches.
Eureka! What if the mainsheet was led to a secondary winch that was forward a bit making it easy to access as well as the jib sheet winches.
I already have that! A Pair of 2 speed Lewmars for the spinnaker. They're mounted on bronze islands so they clear the coaming. AND, I have a large bronze eye through bolted just aft of the old track now. I can try this set up next time I'm out, using a large snatch block(which I have several) for the turning block, to see how it works.
Back to Jeremy, I could even run this double ended. But I think I'll see how it works on the cockpit end-alone. I'm not sure if one winch would always work or if one on each end might be handier. Give me an idea how I like the mainsheet, jib sheet and wheel all in easy reach, but protected by the dodger.
