Picture the mainsheet looping over the shoulders-head-neck of the helmsman before snapping taught.
I wish I could remember a recent conversation with someone about that hazard. I think they may have moved their sheet from behind the helm. In front of the helm solves that problem but is an obstacle to moving fore and aft.
We nearly took out a passenger once on our C&C 38 which had its traveler on the bridge deck in aft of the companionway.
I favor getting the traveller out of the cockpit myself. Maybe not perfect for racing but nice for cruising. An arch like ours wouldn't go on a boat like yours I 'spect.
