so if you can get access to it from wherever you happen to be in the cockpit, a one-ended mainsheet is obviously simpler.
I think it's great that you have the hardware in place to allow you to experiment. Try doing that with an off-the-shelf Hunterbenelina.
Keep us posted on the results of your trials. I'm pretty confident that a hard-to-reach mainsheet is a problem on many boats.
