Hey Paul,
...They seem totally uninterested in your passport... Which is a good thing, since I had forgotten to bring mine when I went up to Newfoundland a few years ago... When I realized my mistake, I delayed calling Customs until I finally retrieved my passport # after a series of rather expensive phone calls back home, turned out my travel agent was fortunately able to pull mine up from her records. So, after all that drama and effort, when I called Customs, I had no success even after practically PLEADING with them, to convince them to record it... (grin)
I never cease to be amazed how easy it is to clear into Canada... This summer I cleared in from St Peter's on Cape Breton. A phone call to the 800 number, done... All they wanted was the boat's registration #, no interest whatsoever in the number of my passport. Kinda weird, actually...
When I was in Makkovik up in Labrador for a couple of days, a couple of the RCMP officers wandered on down to the dock where I was to check out the boat. You're supposed to have your official clearance number displayed somewhere visible, and of course I hadn't bothered way up there... We chatted for awhile, very friendly guys, and just as they were leaving, I asked if they wanted to see or make a record of my cruising permit...
"Nah, you're good..."
Damn, I just love cruising in Canada... (grin)
best regards,
Jon
