Although she's read volumes on Roosevelts, all era's, visiting the FDR park is a sidebar to this passion which she has been planning. We watched the Burns series this fall. Very good! A sad and amazing story all in one. Campobello is worth the visit for this history alone. So much to see in the nicely kept park, which is free to the public.
I'm always amazed at how dark the palatial mansions, even the 'cottages', of our 'rich', often are inside. Mary Ann mentioned a plausible reason. If your means drive a high aspiration to housing larger than the norm, there's a lot of distance between your outside walls. Sunlight only penetrates so far.
While the FDR cottage was a bit dark throughout, the nearby Hubbard Cottage, a bit less opulent, had better light. I have little wonder why so many of our wealthy, past and present, suffer so much depression.
This window and room were quite uplifting on a dismal day. Looking toward Eastport.
