I had the same problem

The IF boat has an outboard well, and it was too hard to lift the motor out after each sail. (It also tended to choke on its own fumes unless I kept the Lazarette hatch open). I tried every aluminum anti fouling imaginable with little success and ended up closing the well and hanging the outboard on a stern bracket. Not as pretty, but much easier to use and maintain.
