I had adjustable lazy jacks that could be slackened, which I did when sailing to minimize chafe but they were not lead forward to the mast when sailing. I had them mostly "actionable" if I may misuse a word at all times. In conjunction with the full battens of the main, loose footed, they worked a wonder and single handing that boat was doable with ease when it came to raising or lowering the main.
