For the boom I'd think the bike helmets would work, and be cooler/lighter. The skateboarder helmets have even better protection/coverage but they're a little hotter to wear.

I remember reading that Evans Estarzinger wears a motorcycle helmet with full face shield for severe weather. That's what I'd want in a hurricane. (Not that I'd want to be in a hurricane). A motorcycle helmet has thick open cell foam lining and might no dry out so easily.
