There's all kinds of stuff out there: Deadhead logs and pilings, stuff that floated off beaches and down rivers, and of course all the stuff that falls off ships.

Then there's sleeping whales etc. A friend struck an ocean sunfish -- struck it with his keel. It stopped his boat abruptly, probably injured the fish. They're huge, and can weigh over a ton.
