That was my first thought, as well...

...but, I don't think so...

The hatches on those boats are just glass/Lexan panels flush with the deck, they could have easily been blown out by water pressure from below... The wheel was reported to be missing by the ship that first sighted her months ago...

And, the winches are still there... This is a Gunboat, after all, there are only two of them, an you're just not looking in the right place for them... (grin)

Hmmm, I wonder what might happen if you ever had to resort to using a winch handle on one of those things ?

That could be a bit "disruptive", no? (grin)
