The standard headsail was a 150 with a foam luff (POS headsail reef system). We used the 150 unless the apparent wind was consistantly 100 or more off the bow. Then I'd quite often put the first reef in the main to help keep the headsail clear.
We could fly the asym. with the wind on the beam, or even slightly ahead with no problem. Problem is that if the wind inched forward we'd need to take it down so we didn't put it up unless it was consistantly 100 or more for a good while. It was a huge asym, 3/4 oz and a lot of work, even with the ATN sock so we wouldn't put it up unless it was going to stay open for a few hours. Since we had a motorsailer the wind needed to be at least 5 knots apparent or we'd start the engine instead.
Always wanted a Code 0 on a furler ahead of the headsail but stopped adding equipment when we decided to sell her.
