Just the opposite here. Our water is so high right now the ramps "down" to our floating docks actually go "up" to the floating docks. The ramps are so far up the whells/rollers are off the deck and the beams are rubbing on the ends of the mains so we had to add aluminum angle iron on the ends so the ramps wouldn't damage the decking.
As far as hauling for the winter, many of the marinas here are run by the government, either the DCNR at Presque Isle State Park Marina or the Port Authority for several others. We lease our property from the Port Authority but are considered a private yacht club. On October 31st the government run marinas close down. That means the power and water to the docks are shut off, fuel docks and pumpout stations are shut down, the restrooms and showers are closed and winterized, all navigation aids are removed and any docks that can be are pulled. The USCG will start pulling buoys later than that, but do get the removed and replaced with can markers. At the clubs, the water and power to the docks is shut off, equipment is winterized but the clubhouses remain open year round for club activities. Most of the clubs and some of the marinas will also install ice booms at their entrances. This minimizes dock damage when the ice starts to move around on the bay and lake, also effectively closes the place to any boat traffic.
Come April 1 the process starts in reverse with everything coming back to life about mid-April.
