it just doesn't make any sense not to use safety chain, that's about $30 for insurance. I tried to get a rule added to the club charter a few years ago requiring safety chain to be used on all boats. That proposal was overwhelmingly defeated. You would think that boats were free, but these guys use everything from old dock lines, dog leash chain, freight tie downs to tie jack stands together, some use nothing at all.
We use seven stands for a 27' boat.
