Aside from the good observations and suggestions below...When did you last check the fluid level in the batteries? Did you do it when you bought the boat?

I think it would be best if you used Gel Cells, Craig. If you don't, then you will have to routinely check the fluid levels of the batteries; and, you'll be more likely to have out gassing issues in your lockers from the not too convenient battery boxes.

There are a lot sailors that make checking their batteries' fluid levels and terminals a habit -- but, for those that don't (aside from their other advantages), I'd go with Gel Cells.

You can get them at pretty discounted prices from a number of suppliers beyond the local retailers. You might check-out http://www.dcbattery.com. We got our AGM's from them at substantial savings over other sources.
