I figure shore power cooks most batteries.

I've cooked a few over the years in the fall or spring when I left them on a charger for a few days. Good chargers aren't supposed to do that and my chargers may be a lesser quality. I can't ever recall overcharging that exposed the plates while running the engine. But that would be rarely more than a few hours. I never check my electrolyte levels between spring and fall unless I've motored a long stint, say overnight.
