Knocking off other people's designs is a great tradition in the Far East. Dates back to the Ta Chiao rip off of the Ed Monk designed Mariner 41 that became the CT 41 in the '60s. To say that the locals have a loose interpretation of intellectual and physical property rights is putting it mildly. Another that comes to mind is the Kelly/Peterson 44 and the Formosa 44. Of course, it's not only been done in the Far East. The Ericson 35 Mark I hull has a striking resemblance to the Pearson Alberg 35. Strange that after Pearson closed there West Coast Factory and hired someone to haul the molds to a landfill that Ericson sprung into business with designs that bore startling likeness to the Pearson boats that were built at their West Coast Factory.
