Had same problem,

I had the same problem of the sheet needing to be yanked down to free it. I do have a traveler bu it is atthe level of the cockpit seat in the rear of the cockpit. My solutions was a dyneema lanyard. After doing this, at first when the sheet was released I did not like the way it would flop down, lines would get tangled, so I also installed a small line across the back of the cockpit well bove the g=traveler that goes through the the upper shackle of the sheet block, so that the block loosely rides on it and it keeps the block from flopping over when not under tension. This could be trouble for you because it would cross the middle of your cockpit. For me, when not under tension the block lay all over my traveler and the back of my tiller, your will just be on the floor. You can try this without much work to install, and if its not good, just reattach the block itself to the fixed eye.
