This image is the inside view of the same assembly shown from the outside in the other post above. Yes you're right I can see the circle clip. The aluminum frame is the surround that has the empty threaded screw holes.
I'm guessing the I need to remove the fiberglass cowl that surrounds everything, and then it'll be easier to work on. That's a major PITA, because of throttle and all the electrical connections, wire harness.
This is all because I have a persistent squeak in the steering, and I've tried spraying lube into the bearing area from inside and out without success.
