It is amazing looking wood! Interesting choice for a cockpit but I can see why you are using it.
Your plan to split the project into two discrete parts makes a lot of sense to me. Sounds like you should have a fun, full winter!
I love the "..time of contemplation..." reference. It is one of my favorite parts of any complex project. Sometimes I will intentionally let the time drag I enjoy it so much!
