5 months in coastal Maine water, and I start to see heavy growth.

Mostly thin algae like growth around the waterline. But at haul out, the prop and shaft have at least a few barnacles. The bottom of the centerboard and keel have a mussel or two, or sometimes, enough mussels for dinner for two. That's with all the best oil based and all the best water based antifouling paint. I think the waterbased is in fact the best of all.

Strangely, the water around here is quite clear. But it's still full of life. Docks that get pulled after about the same time, 5-6 months, are encrusted with mussels, barnacles and plenty of greenery.
