Of course that takes it to a whole new level of, uh, "detail."
When I first viewed that pic of the hatch, I was shocked... "wow what a terrible hole to put in all that beautiful decking..." Then I realized that you fill the pan with the decking and thus it just becomes a bronze ring in the deck.
Gotta wonder though, how well someone really fits in there... can you really work in that space? On my tiny boat the whole cockpit floor lifts out and I access the engine, transmission and water heater (and the rest of the engine support stuff) that way. Terrible for at sea... as one boarding wave would spell disaster, but wonderful for working dockside. I just get right on in there.
