....be advised that on one occasion I was working deep within a side locker with access below. I over reached just a taste and found myself stuck upside down in the locker with no place to get traction to get back out. FORTUNATELY, there was another guy in the yard building working on his boat, also a retired fireman, who heard me and came over and yarded me out by my belt. Oops. Haven't heard the end of that one yet..

Back to a new cockpit: It took me a day to fit this old manhole into the cockpit sole.
- So anyway to use the part you cut out...
  - I've got to cut new 3/4" thick decking to fit flush. Not right now,...
    - Too bad, would have been nice to "match the grain."
      - Believe it or not, it is handy. There's a pretty large space below.

        The access in many areas of a boat is very limited. Especially older designs.

      - I ended some shorts in that circle, Al. Might have been a good idea.
- Is that flush when underway or is there a shallow rain catcher area? Deceptive in pic.
  - All flush. The lid/cover is recessed for 3/4" thick decking, laid inside the pan.
    - Ah, of course! That tells it all. What will you use to hold the decking in place?
      - The old pieces were screwed in place - from below. I'm thinking adhesive.
        
        That'd be what I'd do.
        
        Then,...done!
        
        Sure, then you can blame it on me if it lets go.
