I retired over twenty years ago. I patiently waited for my wife (fifteen years younger) to retire about six years ago. I always said I wanted to do 'sunset cruises' on my boat during my golden years. That came to fruition about five years ago and now we do the trips during the tourist season. Here's what I have discovered. It will almost destroy your boat. Not because people are being negligent or unthoughtful. It's the sheer volume of people who come aboard. The balsa core in my deck has been crushed to the point that last year I had to re-core the entire back deck and this fall I'll do the front deck. You should only do these cruises on a steel boat in my opinion. "IF" I could take my boat to a boatyard every fall and tell them to put the boat back in the condition it was in before the tour season started, it would cost me more than I took in during the entire year. The damage from continual daily usage is staggering. It happens in increments, not on a daily basis but you can certainly see it from one season to the next. If I stop taking people out next season it will take me the entire year to get my boat back in the Bristol condition I always strived for. I wonder if boats used in the bareboat business get abused even more than this. It's pretty sobering to experience this. Any thoughts out there?
