Earlier this year the wife picked up a few tomato plants - from somewhere? I put the brown end in the ground and just kinda ignored them. I didn't stake them up - they just spread. Now they're spitting out tomatos - a few a day. Kinda ugly things with streaks and bands on the skin, but they are sure tasty! I'll have to look in the ground if see if the pot tags are still near the plants and find out the variety for next year.
The same trip, I asked her to get some oregano plants. She came back with a pot of thyme - 'German Thyme' the tag said. At the time we had a house guest from Hamburg, so I asked her the difference between our thyme and German thyme. 6 hours she said - gotta love house guests!
