As we age, I am thinking of getting a boat with a less powerful rig.
Presently we have our Freedom 40/40. It is an early model. On the later ones, they cut down the mast and decreased the sail area (decreased the size of the main).
She is quite easy to sail, and performs very well. The halyard/mainsheet winch is electric.
I have sailed her with no problems in some nasty weather.
Nonetheless, as I am considering a boat on which to spend extended periods of our retirement, I am thinking of a boat with a smaller rig, or split rig.
Has anyone had similar thoughts, and if so what have you done.
